The 21st year of the “International ICT Seagulls Projects” was completed and delivered as web page addresses on the 1st day of July. Then, peer- and jury assessment started. Last week it was finalized and the results appeared. They are as follows:
This year 2 Turkish and 5 teams from other countries registered to the project. However, 5 projects were completed. One Turkish project was registered last year, and they were the 2nd Turkish team which belonged to an adult team from the Education Group of Sariyer City Council. They had planned to lead a two-year project. It was about the educational system of Turkey and ended in 2024. The other Turkish team was a Middle school team from Datça, Muğla, Türkiye. Three overseas projects belonged to High schools in India (2 teams) and Pakistan (1 team). The theme of this year was: Social responsibility and voluntarism. Here are the projects and their links:
- The “DATÇA SEAGULLS” Team of Datça Yılmazlar Middle School (Datça, Muğla, Türkiye), consisting of 8 students, and 3 teachers, focused on the “Marine Pollution problem of Datça” worked to suggest possible solutions to raise awareness about it within the community. Project leaders guided the team members: Ali Ergen, Kenan Gümüş, and Tümer Kara, with the great support of the school principal, Mrs. Tülay Demirci. For the “Middle school age group”, their project award was: “THE BEST MIDDLE SCHOOL PROJECT of 2024”. They also got: “KÜBRA KÜÇÜKERDEN KOÇAN JURY SPECIAL AWARD”. Ms. Koçan was one of the outstanding activists about nature, environment, and community leadership and a precious member of YİMEDER. We lost her last Spring, and this new award was designed on behalf of her name. RİP.

- The “SİLİCON SAMARITANS” Circle of City Montessori School (CMS) Kanpur Road (Lucknow, India), consisting of 10 students aged 16-17, 2 parents and 3 community leaders, worked on “The integration of technology to education to form world peace and unity” project. With the support of the school principal Dr. Vineeta Kamran, the team members worked under the great leadership of Mr. Vaibhav Srivastava, and Mrs. Mamta Singh Chauhan. The jury members determined their project as: “THE CHAMPION ICT PROJECT” & “PROF.DR. ÜMİT SERDAROĞLU JURY SPECIAL AWARD of 2024”. Prof. Serdaroğlu was one of the most outstanding archeologists and architects of Türkiye and he was the first advisor of the ICT Seagulls Project and a member of our NGO. But we lost him in 2005.

- The “TRAUMA OF WAR” Circle of Blue Bells Model School (BBMS) (Gurugram, Haryana, India), consisting of 10 students aged 16-17, 1 parent, and 2 community leaders, worked on “The war and the traumatic results of wars upon martyrs’ families”. With the support of the school principal Mrs. Alka Singh, the team members worked under the great leadership of Dr. Madhu Gupta, Ms. Sanjna Bhasin, Ms. Manisha Kumari, and Dr. Yogesh Sharma. The jury members determined their projects as: “THE CHAMPION SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECT” & “PROF.EROL İNELMEN JURY SPECIAL AWARD”.

- The “SKYLARKS” Circle of Modernage Public School & Boys School (Abbottabad, Pakistan) consisted of 10 students, 2 parents, and 1 community leader, studying reducing paper wastage in society for a sustainable environment. The team was supported by the school founder Abdul Wahid Mir and the team worked under the guidance of Ms. Tabinda Shahzad and Ahsan Zeb Khan. Their project was awarded as:
“THE BEST HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY” and “TANER ÖZBEY JURY SPECIAL AWARD”. Taner Özbey was a great loss for the YİMEDER family with his kind heart and special efforts for the peace and unity of humanity.

- The “Teachers of Atatürk” Team studied that project starting from the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic and their project lasted 2 years. The members of the Education Team of Sarıyer City Council planned the project. They decided to prepare a book for improving the Turkish Educational System starting from Sarıyer and moving to all Türkiye. The system was designed, and the book was written by Dr. Köksal. It will be translated into English as soon as possible. It is a unique project aiming at the “improvement of Turkish Educational System based upon the principles of the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the philosophy of Village Institutes which were the schools of the Enlightenment period and existed between 1940 and 1946. The project was awarded as:
“THE BEST EDUCATIONAL SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECT BASED UPON THE PRINCIPLES OF ATATÜRK “and “DR. JAGDISH GANDHI JURY SPECIAL AWARD”.
We wholeheartedly congratulate all the students within the teams and thank their supporters, leading teachers, and the parents of students. We wish them good luck with their future successful work. We also thank
our national and international jury members (Prof. Dr. Syed Ali, Prof. Dr. Richard Ennals, Dr. Vineeta Kamran, Ms. Nilüfer Özbey, and Mr. Mehmet Gül) for their hard work and commitment. Prof. Ennals says; “As in the past, the work of the ICT Seagulls was impressive”.
