Dearest Colleagues,
The International ICT Seagulls Project has just completed its 12th year. Dr. Hayal Köksal, based upon the continuous improvement philosophy, designed it and Microsoft Turkey supported it for the first five years. Students of the universities_especially students of the faculties of Education have been included in the Project under the title of “ICT Leading Seagulls” for the last two years. Retired teachers are also included in the project. It aims at training thinking and problem-solving young generations through İmece Circles methodology supported by effective technology use. Many organizations support it such as; the World Council for Total Quality & Excellence in Education (WCTQEE) founded by 25 countries in City Montessori School, Lucknow, India, Nepal QUEST, Peace Education Center of Boğaziçi University (BUPERC), Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies Network and the Association for Innovative Collaboration (YİMEDER).
Starting from Kindergarten levels to university levels and from the gifted students to the challenged ones almost 400 projects were studied successfully up to now and all the project owners were awarded and certified. In 2006, international teams started registering the project and the Ministry of National Education supported teacher coordinators to lead that project within Turkish schools starting from the year 2007. Teams from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, South Africa, USA, and UK took part in the project in different years. The essence of the project is supported by peer and jury assessments. Every two years, the International Award Ceremony takes place in CMS, Lucknow, India starting from the year of 2009.
This year, the youngest team belongs to CMS; the fourth graders studied about Hygiene and Security. From middle schools, there are two teams; one from Turkey and the other is from Sri Lanka. Seven high school teams are from Turkey and Sri Lanka. Unıversity teams are from Gaziantep and Boğaziçi Universities. This year’s projects will start on 1st October as usual and will end on the 1st day of June. Sharing the steps and activities of all projects is done through web pages and/or Blogs. This year we wanted to emphasize the importance of friendship and collaboration. Winning is of course important but sharing and learning are the most important principles in this project. I hope we could help the participants internalize these feelings. We also stressed the ethics and moral values.
We congratulate all the teams of 2015 and invite all schools, retired teachers, companies, NGOs and family-supported teams to our Projects.
Dr. Hayal KÖKSAL
Project Designer & General Coordinator
